Government Surveillance and Personal Freedoms

Government Surveillance and Personal Freedoms:  Congress must ensure all government data collection and surveillance programs are constitutional and monitored to prevent abuses.

  • Our constitutional rights need not be compromised in the name of national security.
  • Bulk phone and email data collection by the NSA, IRS, or any government agency must stop.
  • We must have constant vigilance so information collected cannot be used for any illegal or political purpose.

The Constitution does not need to be compromised in the name of national security. While many security initiatives were launched with the best of intentions (such as the PRISM program), the information collected, in the wrong hands, allows the government to use it for political purposes. The potential for abuse of power is reason enough to end many of the unconstitutional surveillance programs of the National Security Agency. I support the end of bulk phone and email data collection by the NSA, IRS, or any other branch of government.
