Human life is sacred, as guaranteed by our Declaration of Independence, and I will always support laws and policies that protect it. It is an abomination that the Republican Congress did not deny Planned Parenthood access to our tax dollars in the 2015 Omnibus bill.
In our Judeo-Christian tradition, marriage has always been exclusively understood as between one man and one woman, because the central purpose of marriage is to perpetuate the family, which is the basis of society. To say that a child has two mothers or two fathers is a politically correct fiction, in complete conflict with biological fact. I cannot be convinced that the optimal state for raising any child is anything other than to be in a loving household with a father and mother. This is why society has always granted preference to exactly this form of human arrangement. Recognizing the natural truth of marriage does not denigrate any who find themselves fulfilled otherwise. But because non-optimal alternatives do exist and are now in law, there is no reason to diminish the primacy of traditional marriage and its fundamental role as the foundation of human society.
